Legal Assistant – Commercial Litigation | Toronto ON

This role is working with three associates in the Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Commercial Litigation Departments. This opportunity is right for someone with previous litigation experience and has excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure. The successful candidate will be professional, have strong attention to detail and pride in their work.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operation of three legal practices with a primary focus in Bankruptcy, Insolvency and Corporate Commercial Litigation
  • Prepare, edit and complete all necessary correspondence and documentation
  • Assist with the finalization of various litigation documents for Civil, Commercial and Federal Court including but not limited to: motion records, pleadings, notices, affidavits, affidavits of documents and bill of costs
  • Produce the highest quality of work
  • Handle daily administrative details
  • Manage duties related to accounting

Core Skills & Requirements:

  • Minimum of two years’ previous experience as a Legal Assistant in Litigation
  • Successful completion of a related post-secondary Legal Assistant or Law Clerk program
  • Excellent knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Knowledge of the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act and the Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act would be considered an asset
  • Experience submitting and formatting materials for the Ontario Superior Court of Justice (Commercial List) would be considered an asset
  • Previous experience with ACL is considered an asset
  • Handle time pressure situations and stress of multiple demands
  • Microsoft 365 suite of applications
